Based on numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes 
equations by the finite-difference method and physical modeling in 
a wind tunnel of laminar flow along a cylinder with a protruding disk 
the vortex mechanism of front stabilization and reduction in the drag 
of blunt bodies is investigated.
