A matrix of kinetic coefficients that describe the
processes of particle and heat transfer in a double membrane is obtained.
The kinetic coefficients are considered as functions of the membrane
parameters. Conditions are found under which the energy expended on
transfer of one atom through the membrane is minimum. The obtained
theoretical value of this energy is compared with the corresponding
value for active transport of ions in biomembranes.
