A simplified method for finite-element calculation
of the stressed state of a plane region undergoing a polymorphic
transformation is described. An exact solution is obtained for a
circular region and the exact solution is compared with the numerical
one. The effect of an austenite-ferrite transformation on the
behavior of the stressed state in the circular region is analyzed.
