The paper presents the basic concepts of a system approach
to thermal processes and heat-exchanging apparatuses. The
principle of groups that is applied to the analysis of thermal
systems and the search for systemic, integrative properties is
considered. Integral and local thermal and "mechanical"
resistances are one of the forms of the groups. Dimensionless
complexes of similarity theory are shown to be one of the forms
of the groups at whose critical values integrative properties are
manifested.
